  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup rolled oats (optional, for oat crumble)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Place them in a large bowl.
  3. Add lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the apples. Toss to coat evenly.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into a 9-inch pie plate or an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  5. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender, your fingertips, or a food processor until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  7. If using oats, stir them into the crumble mixture.
