A refreshing pitcher drink perfect for fall gatherings and tailgates, featuring apple cider and warm spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine (like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/4 cup brandy or applejack
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur (like Triple Sec or Cointreau)
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 apple, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 pear, cored and thinly sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 cup fresh cranberries (optional)
  • Sparkling water or club soda, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, apple cider, brandy, and orange liqueur.
  2. Add the sliced orange, apple, pear, and cinnamon sticks to the pitcher. If using, add the fresh cranberries.
  3. Stir gently to combine all ingredients.
  4. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. To serve, fill glasses with ice. Pour the sangria over the ice, leaving the fruit and cinnamon sticks in the pitcher.
  6. Top each glass with a splash of sparkling water or club soda.
  7. Garnish with extra fruit slices if desired.

Notes

  • For a white sangria, use a dry white wine like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc and add lemon slices instead of orange.
  • To make a nonalcoholic version, substitute white grape juice or more apple cider for the wine and omit the brandy and orange liqueur.
  • This sangria can be made ahead of time, up to 2 days in advance. The flavors will deepen the longer it sits.
  • Consider this a great alternative to traditional meal planning for your next event.
