Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12 ounce) bag fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest (optional)
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine cranberries, sugar, and water in a medium saucepan.
  2. Add orange zest and cinnamon stick if using.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
  5. Remove the cinnamon stick.
  6. Let the sauce cool completely. It will thicken further as it cools.

Notes

  • This sauce can be made up to 3 days in advance and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • For a smoother sauce, you can mash some of the cranberries with the back of your spoon while it simmers.
