A simple and delicious homemade guacamole recipe perfect for parties, game days, or taco nights. Learn how to make chunky or smooth guacamole and prevent browning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 12 serrano or jalapeño peppers, finely minced (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • Optional: 1 Roma tomato, seeds removed and diced

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
  2. Mash the avocado with a fork. For chunky guacamole, leave some larger pieces. For smoother guacamole, mash more thoroughly.
  3. Add the chopped red onion, cilantro, minced peppers, lime juice, and salt to the bowl.
  4. Stir gently to combine all ingredients. If using, add the diced tomato and mix.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Add more salt or lime juice as desired.
  6. To prevent browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole, ensuring no air pockets. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

  • For a spicier guacamole, leave some seeds in the peppers.
  • If you don’t have fresh peppers, you can use 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes.
  • To make ahead, prepare the guacamole and press plastic wrap directly onto the surface. Store in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. The lime juice helps preserve the color.
  • Serve with tortilla chips, vegetable sticks, or as a topping for tacos and sandwiches.
