Make a silky, no-clump nacho cheese sauce in five minutes. This easy cheese dip tastes like the fast-food favorite and works perfectly as a topping for nachos or fries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 ounces processed cheese, cubed (like Velveeta or similar American cheese)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for one minute, stirring constantly to create a roux. Do not let it brown.
  3. Slowly whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth. Continue to cook, stirring often, until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the cubed processed cheese, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  5. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy. This is the secret to a no-clump dip.
  6. Serve immediately over your favorite snacks.

Notes

  • If the sauce becomes too thick upon standing, whisk in a tablespoon of milk or water until you reach your desired consistency.
  • For a spicier queso dip, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce with the spices.
  • This recipe makes a perfect quick nacho sauce for game day snacks.
