Ingredients
Scale
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
6 hamburger buns
Instructions
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and onion. Cook, breaking up the beef, until the onion is softened and the beef is browned. Drain off any excess grease.
Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, white vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
Reduce heat to low and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, allowing the flavors to meld.
Toast the hamburger buns if desired.
Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom halves of the hamburger buns. Top with the other half of the buns.
Notes
Toasting the buns helps prevent them from getting soggy.
