Ingredients
Scale
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
2 celery stalks, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1/2 cup red wine (optional)
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 pound spaghetti
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
Add chopped onion, carrots, and celery to the pot. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
Pour in crushed tomatoes and red wine (if using). Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally. For a richer flavor, simmer for up to 2 hours.
While the sauce simmers, cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain well.
Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
Notes
For a deeper flavor, you can add a bay leaf to the sauce while it simmers and remove it before serving.
This sauce freezes well, making it perfect for meal prep.
