Learn to make a smooth, lump-free turkey gravy from your pan drippings, perfect for completing your holiday meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons turkey drippings
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups turkey or chicken broth
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Pour the turkey drippings into a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour until smooth, creating a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until lightly golden.
  3. Gradually whisk in the turkey or chicken broth, ensuring no lumps form.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring often.
  5. Continue to simmer and stir for 5-10 minutes, or until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  7. Serve hot over turkey and sides.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a splash of white wine or a pinch of dried herbs like thyme or sage.
  • If your gravy is too thick, whisk in a little more broth. If it’s too thin, simmer it a bit longer or make a slurry of 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon cold water and whisk it in until thickened.
