Make this rich, smooth white hot chocolate at home. It uses simple ingredients and comes together fast, giving you a comforting, indulgent winter beverage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups Whole Milk
  • 6 ounces good quality White Chocolate, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Pinch of Salt

Instructions

  1. Pour the whole milk into a medium saucepan. Heat the milk over medium heat until it just begins to steam around the edges. Do not let it boil.
  2. Reduce the heat to low. Add the chopped white chocolate to the warm milk. Let it sit for one minute to soften the chocolate.
  3. Whisk the mixture constantly until the white chocolate is completely melted and the drink is smooth. Keep the heat low to prevent scorching the milk or chocolate.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and the pinch of salt.
  5. Pour the creamy white hot chocolate into mugs. Top with whipped cream or marshmallows if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use high-quality white chocolate; the flavor of the final drink depends on it.
  • If the drink seems too thick, add a splash more milk until you reach your preferred consistency.
  • For a Starbucks copycat version, add 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract along with the vanilla.
  • To make this an indulgent winter treat, top with toasted marshmallows or a dusting of cinnamon.
